Oct 23, 2020 Vision & Roadmap for Green Affordable Housing for LDA
In India, buildings account for 35% of the overall power consumption and contribute significantly to greenhouse gases emissions. 70% of the building infrastructure required in the country in the coming decade is yet to be built, and therein lies an opportunity to design and develop buildings that are economical, comfortable and energy efficient.
The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) scheme by Government of India, intends to provide 11.2 million affordable houses for all urban poor by the year 2022. Alongside, the program also employs eco-friendly and sustainable construction. Under the PMAY Scheme, various parts of the Lucknow city are undergoing construction by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). MAITREE has facilitated large scale deployment of green and energy efficient strategies in Lucknow.
- Developed a vision and roadmap for ‘Green’ & energy efficient buildings, applicable to all buildings coming up under the purview of LDA.
- Provided inputs on design and specifications for two housing schemes to meet ECBC-R compliance.
- Developed a comprehensive implementation approach which included activities for implementation, roles and responsibility matrix, administrative process flows & tasks, and relevant forms to be included in the LDA’s E-Portal.
The Green Building Criteria (GBC) formulated for all LDA buildings includes various design level and construction stage requirements to reduce the development’s environmental impacts. By the end of year 2020 a total of 48,000 dwelling units for the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) along with 2000 dwelling units for other income groups are expected to be built under the purview of LDA following the program.
